The Board of Transport Scotland is an advisory body, without a legal identity, which is charged with supporting and advising the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive is formally accountable for the performance of the organisation.
While the Board is not formally accountable for the performance of the organisation, the Scottish Government and its Ministers are likely to consider that everyone on the Board, Executives and Non-Executive Members, are responsible for ensuring the Chief Executive is properly advised and supported in the fulfilment of his role. The Board should be conducted in accordance with this requirement.
The Board has three tasks or principles that underpin its day to day activity:
- work together to define future goals and shape of Transport Scotland
- set the style, character and culture of the organisation, and
- directing, reinforcing and enabling through being an effective leadership team.
Its three areas of responsibility are:
- leading strategic direction
- delivering performance, and
- managing risk.
