The Trunk Road: Network Management Directorate is responsible for:

• Managing the efficient operation of the trunk roads network
• Procuring and managing network maintenance contracts
• Major maintenance projects
• Maintenance policy and finance
• Managing real-time information services (such as Traffic Scotland) and integration of these services between modes 
• Planning applications
• Accident investigation and prevention
• Management of trunk road bridges and structures
• Advice and standards associated with bridges and structures
• Technical approval of trunk road structures and departures from standard.
