1st Anniversary

A view of some of the work that Transport Scotland has done since it came into effect 12 months ago in January 2006.

Aniversary Montage

  1. Transport Scotland showcased intelligent transport systems at an International Congress in October held in London.
  2. Work started to improve the freight line between Mossend and Elgin promoting the use of rail rather than road for moving freight.
  3. A barge arrives in the Forth - a major piece of equipment required for the work which began in June to construct the new Upper Forth Crossing at Kincardine.
  4. The Agency came into effect on the 1 January, with an official launch on the 9th with the Minister for Transport, Tavish Scott and Chief Executive Malcolm Reed announcing £150 million investment in Waverley Station.
  5. April saw the successful launch of the new Concessionary Travel Scheme for older and disabled people in Scotland, with 980,000 of the million people eligible, apply for the scheme and enjoy the benefits of free travel on the bus.
  6. Track laying which will reconnect Alloa to the Scottish rail network via Stirling enabling passengers to travel on the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine rail line as well as opening a key freight line to Longannet Power Station in Fife.
  7. Helping to ensure the safety of the younger generation, Minister for Transport, Tavish Scott visited a school in Midlothian in May that will benefit from a 20mph zone.
