What is Scot-TAG?
Scot-TAG is Transport Scotland's web based transport assessment guidance facility. It acts as a central point of reference for those seeking advice from the Transport Scotland on what its criteria is for any transport assessment in Scotland.
What is on Scot-TAG?
Scot-TAG is the home for the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance, (STAG). It also serves as the gateway to the Transport Model for Scotland, (TMfS), Transport Assessment and NESA as well as general Scottish Government economic assessment advice. There are also links to other key sites such the DfT's WebTAG and Scottish Government's Planning Guidance.
How do I register as a user of Scot-TAG?
Go to the Contact Us/ Register page using the link on the left hand side of this page and use the link within the text to the newsletter subscription service to register your contact details.
What will I receive as a registered user?
You will receive e-mail news alerts of any changes or additions made to any Transport Scotland transport assessment criteria as published on Scot-TAG. This should help to keep you fully up to date with the latest transport appraisal advice.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. The service is free but we would ask you to ensure that your registration contact details are up-to-date so that e-mail alerts reach you.
How do I provide feedback on Scot-TAG?
If you have a comment or observation on Scot-TAG these are welcomed. They can be sent via email to the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will the STAG document continue to be issued in hard copy format?
No. One of the primary drivers of the electronic home for STAG is to ensure that updates can be introduced quickly and cost effectively and that registered users can be informed of these changes and have immediate ready access to the changes.
Will Transport Scotland be providing worked examples of successful STAG appraisals?
It is not our intention to provide 'worked examples' due to the different nature of each STAG based appraisal and to avoid the danger of replicating a similar appraisal without using sufficient original thought.
Will the Scottish Government continue to give advise to transport planners on a personal basis?
Yes. The Scottish Government and Transport Scotland will continue to offer this service to ensure that transport planners fully understand the requirements and to allow feedback on those issues which are of most concern. This also alerts the Executive to those areas where the guidance provided appears to be ambiguous and requires clarification in the documentation itself.
Are all Local Authorities in Scotland included in TMfS?
Only the areas of major population, ie. the north east, central belt and borders, are included in the modelled area (approximately 95% of the population). However, all Scottish Local Authorities are included in the Planning Database (TELMoS) and membership of the User Group is extended to all Local Authorities to allow access to National data generated by the model.
How can I find out more details about the network and zone system used in TMfS?
By going to the GIS section of the TMfS website, the zone and network plans can be accessed and interrogated by an interactive web browser to examine detailed graphical information. There are facilities to download the data to your own GIS system.
I only get involved with local models. Why should I be interested in TMfS?
TMfS can provide sub-area model information to correspond with the external cordon of a local model. This ensures that the long distance external trips can be identified within the local model area and a degree of correlation established between local and strategic trip patterns. TMfS will also provide strategic growth forecasts for a local area (2006, 2011 and 2021) as a starting point for local growth forecasting.
