Ferry vouchers go live

Concessionary ferry vouchers have gone digital, bringing national concessionary bus travel and ferry vouchers together in one place.

In a first for concession services in the UK, eligible residents in Orkney and Shetland can now use digital vouchers, stored on their National Entitlement Card. This brings benefits of no longer having to wait for paper vouchers in the post to book or make a journey, with the digital ferry vouchers then electronically deducted by the ferry operator for each trip, providing a record of travel.

Vouchers can be downloaded ahead of travel via the ‘Transport Scot Pass Collect’ app, at a local help spot or at NorthLink or Pentland ferry terminals.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop said:

“I’m delighted to hear that more than 6000 people have already collected their digital ferry vouchers. 

“By modernising and streamlining the voucher system we’re enabling concessionary users to book journeys more easily and further in advance than before – opening up even more opportunities for them to access work and leisure, connect with friends and family and see more of our country.

“The new system will also mean we can access better data about concessionary travel, giving us more insight and helping to protect the sustainability of the scheme for generations to come.”
