Public invited to share views on Forth Replacement Crossing

27 August 2007

MORE than 2,000 people from across Fife and Edinburgh attended the first week of Transport Scotland exhibitions setting out proposals for a replacement Forth Crossing.

2010 people attended two exhibitions held at The Queensferry Hotel, North Queensferry, and the Roxburghe Hotel, Edinburgh, between Monday and Friday last week.

In addition to attending exhibitions, more than 850 people have subscribed to the project’s online newsletter at www.forthreplacementcrossing.info

This week the information displays will visit a further 10 different locations across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife, Dundee and Perth.

The exhibitions set out the final two options for a replacement crossing being considered by Scottish Ministers – a bridge or a tunnel to the West of the existing Forth Road Bridge.

Engineers from Transport Scotland and the team of consultants who are developing the crossing will again be on hand at this week’s venues to guide the public through and answer questions on the studies that have led to the short-listed options.

Ministers will make a decision in the Autumn on which crossing will be built and feedback provided by the public at the exhibitions will be considered alongside further technical and legislative work being done over the summer.

Transport Scotland project director David Anderson said:

"The replacement crossing project is clearly of great importance to the country, and of particular interest to all commuters, businesses, local residents and anyone else who has a stake in the future of the Firth of Forth.

"We hope that everyone who attended our first week of public exhibitions left with a better understanding of the bridge and tunnel options which are currently being considered and the thorough process which has led us to this point.

"In an effort to reach as many people as possible who will have an interest in this project, the second week of exhibitions will be held in a variety of locations across the Lothians, Edinburgh, Fife, Perth and Dundee.

"I urge anyone who wants to find out more and share their views to visit one of the exhibitions most convenient for them."
