Forth Replacement Crossing ground investigations to start

A third series of ground and marine investigations for the Forth Replacement Crossing is set to begin in late February.

The two consortia seeking to construct the scheme - Forthspan and Forth Crossing Constructors - are allowed to request these supplementary investigations from Transport Scotland as part of the competitive tendering process. The data produced will support the development of their tender submissions, due towards the end of this year.

Forth Replacement Crossing aerodynamics put to the test by world experts

Experts whose aerodynamic research has influenced the design of the London Eye, Ferrari Formula 1 cars, and the sails of the America’s Cup Team are carrying out tests on the wind shield for the proposed Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC).

Engineers at Italian university Politecnico di Milano in Milan are using complex wind tunnel testing techniques to study the way air moves around a scale model of the proposed wind shield.

The most significant Scottish transport infrastructure project for a generation has reached a historic stage as it goes forward for scrutiny by the Scottish Parliament.

The introduction of the Forth Crossing Bill, which seeks authority to implement and build the new Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC), marks the start of a period where individuals and other parties who may be affected can review full details of the scheme and have the opportunity, should they wish, to lodge objections.

Homeowners, businesses and landowners keen to find out more about compensation and the objection process for the Forth Replacement Crossing are being urged to pick up guidance for the scheme published today.

The guide, published by Transport Scotland, offers those living close to the new bridge information on compensation they may be entitled to during construction or once the crossing and connecting roads are open, and compulsory purchase arrangements. It also explains how the Bill promoting the project will progress through the Scottish Parliament.
