Scheme Details

The Forth Replacement Crossing will include the following key elements:

  • A new cable-stayed bridge with three single column towers, windshielding and a single deck carrying two general lanes of traffic and hard shoulders in each direction
  • Use of the existing Forth Road Bridge as a dedicated public transport corridor for buses, taxis, pedestrians and cyclists
  • High-quality dual carriageway connecting roads which link to the A90 and M9 in the south, making use of the recently completed M9 spur
  • High-quality dual carriageway connecting roads linking the M90/A90 in the north, with junction enhancements at Admiralty and Ferrytoll and road widening between those junctions
  • Use of modern Intelligent Transport System technology along the full length of the scheme
  • Opportunity for introduction of Light Rapid Transit (LRT) on the Forth Road Bridge if required in the future
