Construction Progress June 2008

Upper Forth Crossing

The construction of the new Upper Forth Crossing bridge is approaching completion. The remaining construction activities include the placement of the permanent bearings on each pier, and the placement of the parapet edge beam that will support the vehicle restraint railing. Both these activities are approximately 50% complete, and are scheduled to be completed on programme by Autumn 2008, together with surfacing works and other finishes. The marine demobilisation of temporary works within the estuary is due to commence this month.

Other Structures

The four smaller bridges within the scheme are structurally complete. However, backfilling to Structure S02 (Halls of Airth Overbridge) and S04 (Carse Road Overbridge) has still to be carried out.

Roadworks

The construction of the grade-separated junction at Bowtrees continues to make good progress with surfacing works on the last of the slip roads nearing completion. The earthworks fill operation on both sides of the bridge is almost complete.

Works are progressing well at the Higgins Neuk area with the new roundabout approximately three quarters complete.  Traffic has recently been moved onto the completed section of the roundabout to allow construction of the final section.

Roadworks to the north of the Forth are also progressing well, with surfacing works complete between Carse Road and Kilbagie Roundabout.  A significant amount of landscaping and planting work has been carried out adjacent to the completed sections of carriageway.
