Traffic Management

traffic management at A876 Upper Forth CrossingTemporary Traffic Management – May/June 2008

A876 traffic is currently being diverted onto the new eastbound carriageway between Bowtrees north roundabout and the new roundabout currently under construction at Higgins’ Neuk. This is being carried out in three phases:

Phase 1 – Eastbound traffic (heading towards Kincardine) was moved onto the new eastbound carriageway on the evening of 15th May from the new emergency crossover at Halls of Airth to the new roundabout at Higgins’ Neuk;

Phase 2 – Westbound traffic (heading towards M876/A905) was moved onto the new eastbound carriageway on the evening of 21st May from the new roundabout at Higgins’ Neuk to the new emergency crossover at Halls of Airth, utilising the temporary diversion already constructed through the centre of the new roundabout;

Phase 3 – Eastbound and westbound traffic will be diverted onto the new eastbound carriageway from Bowtrees north roundabout to the emergency crossover at Halls of Airth as shown on the schematic diagram below. This traffic switch is likely to be implemented during week commencing 9th June although this is dependant upon finishing works having been completed and these are largely weather dependant.

As with any new traffic management scheme, traffic delays are anticipated during the initial period of Phase 3 whilst drivers become familiar with the new road layout at the Bowtrees temporary one-way system.

Temporary Traffic Management – Bowtrees North Roundabout (June 2008)

In order to minimise disruption to traffic, the final surfacing works at Bowtrees north roundabout are being carried out in three phases of which two were completed on Sundays in April / May. It is anticipated that the third phase will also be carried out on a Sunday and this is likely to be 8th June. As for phases 1 & 2, Central Scotland Police will provide traffic management assistance to the Contractor.

Information boards will be erected at the location as soon as the date has been agreed.

Other Traffic Management Measures

On completion of the above, further temporary traffic management measures will have to be implemented between now and Autumn 2008 in order to facilitate the finishing works for the M876 and A876 carriageways but, where possible, disruption to traffic will be kept to a minimum. However, some disruption is unavoidable for the completion of the works at the tie-in between the new Higgins’ Neuk roundabout and the existing Kincardine Bridge.

Notice of traffic management measures will be given on Variable Message Signs on the Trunk Road network surrounding Kincardine and at http://www.trafficscotland.org/.

For further details of the diversion routes, see the schematic diagram.
