Dig Diary Week 25 (11 - 15 Feb 2008)

29 February 2008

A new area to the north-east of the northern yards has been expanded. A circular feature with associated walls and flues was uncovered.  It was previously thought that this was the gas production area; however, this is now thought to be a series of boiler houses to produce steam.

Two large concave tanks were uncovered north of the central room. These have evidence of machinery, possibly like a large magi-mix. Within the back-fill of these tanks, several conch shells were uncovered.  It is thought that shells such as these were ground down and used as temper.
