Dig Diary Week 12 (7 Jan - 11 Jan 2008)

13 February 2008

WEEK 12
7th Jan – 11th Jan

Gale force winds throughout the week caused the protective heras fencing surrounding the site to be blown down on a daily basis, therefore the site was not opened for public access due to heath and safety concerns. The excavation of the Lower English Buildings is nearing the end with work continuing on Structures 6 and 7, the washhouses. Work is also continuing on the surfaces, structures and deposits in the central area and linear features which are probably drains to the north of the north range.

The Iron Foundry area continues to be machine stripped with further surfaces and wall footings being uncovered. The site has been heavily truncated by later activity during the 20th century. The remains of brick culverts or flues have been found. Also large areas of beautiful cobbled surfaces.
