Drivers and road workers are to benefit from enhanced road safety following the installation of fourteen average speed cameras between Mollinsburn and Haggs. The cameras are set to go live at the end of this month.

Transport Scotland supports the contractors decision to implement average speed cameras in line with the planned increase of road work on the £320m M80 Stepps to Haggs scheme - a vital project completing the motorway system between Glasgow and Stirling.

Work on the multi-million pound M80 project is set to continue next month with the demolition of the North Road overbridge at Condorrat.

Contractor HMC will demolish the existing North Road Bridge over two phases in October 2009. A temporary bridge, known as a Bailey Bridge, is already in place and provides a single carriageway controlled by traffic lights and a footpath.

Bailey Bridge installed on M80

Work on Transport Scotland’s M80 Stepps – Haggs project took a step forward this weekend with the start of construction work on the North Road Bridge.

Contractor Highway Management Group (HMG), carried out the first phase of work to replace the existing bridge by installing a temporary structure known as a Bailey Bridge. The delicate operation, carried out overnight, involved sliding the Bailey Bridge out over the carriageway and into place beside the old North Road bridge.
Upgrade Work to Glenview Avenue Bridge on A80

Highway Management Group (HMG), delivering the M80 Stepps to Haggs project on behalf of Transport Scotland, will shortly begin work to demolish and rebuild Glenview Avenue Bridge which crosses the A80 at Haggs and Banknock.

The work will require the A80 to be reduced to one lane in each direction adjacent to the Haggs and Banknock interchange. The work has been planned to minimise any delay, however some delays are expected for drivers on the A80, M876 and M80 approaches. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and leave plenty of time.
