Mollinsburn Overbridge - Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February
Four huge beams are being lifted into place to form the Mollinsburn Overbridge and this work requires careful traffic management. See News Release for full details.
A80 / M73 Mollinsburn Interchange
In order to facilitate the construction of the new Mollinsburn Interchange it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic management arrangements commencing on the 8 February. These arrangements involve the re-alignment of the existing northbound and southbound carriageways with traffic travelling in narrow lanes (3.3m wide). The new layout can be seen in the aerial photo.
On the southbound carriageway of the A80, the existing weaving lane between the Mollinsburn junction and the M73 diverge will be replaced by a separate merge and diverge, with southbound access from Mollinsburn to the A80 and access to the M73 being maintained.
Vehicles travelling southbound on the A80 towards Glasgow, wishing to exit for Mollinsburn or the M73, must use Lane 1 (inside lane).
This A80 exit arrangement at the Mollinsburn / M73 area, will remain in place until Summer 2010, and will be incorporated within other adjustments of the traffic management arrangements in the Mollinburn area which will be required in the interim period.
M80 – HGV Essential Works Warning
M80 Upgrade Works: A8011 Old Inns Road Bridge, Forest Road Bridge, Dullatur Road Bridge.
As part of the construction work it is necessary to impose height restrictions of 4.5m on the bridges carrying the A80 over the A8011 i.e. Old Inns Road, Forest Road, and Dullatur Road. Construction works to the bridges has been ongoing since June 2009 and it is anticipated that it will be complete by the Autumn of 2010. These works are an essential part of the M80 Stepps to Haggs Project, and these height restrictions have been agreed following consultations with North Lanarkshire Council and the Police. See map.
Advance warning signage has been erected on the approach to the restricted structures from the A80 and the A8011 to make drivers aware of the height restrictions. Any vehicle in excess of 4.5m should follow the signed diversion routes.
All HGV drivers are being urged to be especially observant upon approach to the three bridges, take note of the advance warning signs, and be mindful of the height restrictions.
HMG would like to apologise for any inconvenience the Bridge Works may cause and ask for your continued ongoing co-operation in relation to their programme of construction works.
Condorrat Ring Road link to Low Wood southbound on-slip to A80
The link road between Condorrat Ring Road and the Low Wood southbound on-slip to the A80 will close permanently from the 1st November 2009.
Alternative access is available at the nearby A8011 to Condorrat Interchange, off the Condorrat Ringroad (please see map below).
New traffic management arrangements between Haggs and Auchenkilns
Prior to the 24 October drivers travelling north between Castlecary to Bogstank Culvert were using the two northbound lanes and southbound drivers were travelling along one lane of the northbound carriageway and one of the southbound lanes to enable construction work to be carried out on the verge and slow lane.
With effect from 24 October, the traffic management between Castlecary and Bogstank Culvert was extended to Auchenkilns.
At Auchenkilns the southbound traffic, running in the northbound carriageway, will use a newly constructed central reseve crossover to rejoin the southbound carriageway and two lanes of running traffic in each direction will continue from from this point.
There have also been various night time lane closures between 8 pm and 6 am prior to the implementation of the new traffic management scheme, to complete the installation of safety barrier and white lining works.
Please note that a key feature of the scheme is that traffic travelling from Stirling and the north will require to be in the nearside lane at Haggs on entry to the new traffic management if they wish to exit the A80 at any point before Mollinsburn.
Advance signing shall be in place to inform road users of the lane designations.
A80 Demolition Of North Road Over Bridge between Westfield And Condorrat
Drivers on the A80 should be aware that work to demolish North Road Bridge will take place over the weekend (commencing Friday 9 October) and resume again next weekend (commencing Friday 16 October).
To ensure the safety of drivers and construction workers, the A80 will be reduced to one-lane in both directions between Westfield and Condorrat. This section will also be completely closed overnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The work will start at 8pm Friday 9 October 2009 and finish by 6am on Monday 12 October 2009. The work will be undertaken as two separate phases for the demolition and will continue the following weekend again starting at 8pm on Friday 16t October and completing at 6am on Monday 19 October 2009.
In order to allow the safe demolition of the bridge, the A80 will be closed to all traffic during the following periods:
- 8pm Friday 9 October to 7am Saturday 10 October
- 8pm Saturday 10 October to 8am Sunday 11 October
- 8pm Sunday 11 October to 6am Monday 12 October
In order to minimise the impact on road users the A80 will have one lane in each direction operating during the following day time periods.
- 7am to 8pm Saturday 10 October
- 8am to 8pm Sunday 11 October
Appropriate diversion routes will be in place for all vehicles during the full closure, however significant delays to the travelling public are anticipated during these periods and drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance to accommodate these delays. Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible on the above dates.
It is expected the same pattern of traffic management will apply for the following weekend (commencing Friday 16 October at 8pm).
This page will be updated to this effect when further details are confirmed.
Hornshill
Northbound traffic travelling from Glasgow will be diverted onto a new route approaching the Crowwood roundabout.
This will enable the construction of the Hornshill Interchange and the M80 offline works. Glasgow-bound traffic from the B757 will continue to follow the diversion via the Crowwood roundabout and then rejoin the M80 southbound.
This minor re-alignment will be implemented in due course and will remain in place until Autumn 2010. This overview photograph highlights those sections of carriageway which will close to traffic, and shows the revised routes.
Hugh O’Connor, HMG General Manager, said:
“We appreciate these works may cause some delays particularly at peak periods and we thank road users for their patience while we carry out these vital works”.
A80 Upgrade Work to Bridge on A80.
Demolition of a bridge over the A80 at Banknock and Haggs will require the A80 to be reduced to one lane in each direction adjacent to the A803 Haggs and Banknock interchange. Delays are expected for drivers on the A80, M876 and M80 approaches, and drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and leave plenty of time. Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting Traffic Scotland.
In order to minimise any disruption caused, the work will be carried out in two phases over the weekend of Friday 14th August to Monday 17th August and Friday 21st August to Monday 24th August, from 20:00 Friday to 06:00 Monday on both weekends.
Auchenkilns to Castlecary
The current setup of two lanes northbound and two lanes southbound will be changed to a countraflow arrangement, which will remain in place for 6 months.
The contraflow will operate from 2 kilometres north of Auchenkilns to 1 kilometre south of Castlecary Arches. It will ensure that two running lanes are maintained in each direction.
Installation of the contraflow requires two temporary traffic management phases, which will take place over three nights. These phases will commence on 28 July 2009 and will finish on 30 July; they will be carried out overnight (8pm to 6am) to reduce traffic distruption.
The contraflow will commence the morning of 30 July, with the final arrangement in place by 31 July.
Further changes to the traffic lanes will be made as the project progresses.
It should also be noted that the Shell petrol station at Old Inns will close prior to these works and is not planned to reopen until November 2009.
