A90 Balmedie to Tipperty Dualling Project

Details

Project Summary:
This project involves the construction of 8 kilometres of new dual carriageway between Balmedie and Tipperty. It will be constructed mainly off-line of the existing road and will have fly-over junctions.

Project benefits
These improvements will provide continuous dual carriageway between Aberdeen and Ellon, which will remove the bottleneck caused by the existing single carriageway. The local community have been pressing for this upgrade for a number of years.

Status
The scheme began preparation in July 2005 and is at the proposal stage. Draft Orders for the Scheme were published on 1 November 2007.

Route Options Public Exhibition
On 15 and 16 June 2006 a Route Options Public Exhibition was held in The White Horse Inn, Balmedie between the hours of 12 noon and 8 PM on both days. The exhibition provided an opportunity for the public to comment on the emerging route options. A copy of the exhibition brochure and Route Options Public Exhibition Report are provided in PDF format.

Cost, Start Date and Completion Date
These details are available from the programme document

Impact on travel
The proposed scheme after construction will result in improved and more reliable journey times and improved safety.

Traffic management
As most of the construction work will be off-line, traffic management will only be required at the tie-ins. The contractor will be required to produce a traffic management plan to demonstrate that delays will be kept to a minimum.

Environmental impact
Environmental impact is detailed in the Environmental Statement which was published on 1 November 2007.

Documents
Draft Orders and an Environmental Statement for the proposed scheme were published on Thursday, 1 November 2007, namely:

A90 Balmedie to Tipperty Environmental Statement

Due to the file size of the full PDF of the Environmental Statement, PDFs are provided for each chapter. The initial link ‘This document is also available in PDF format' goes to the non-technical summary.

The hard copy of the full Environmental Statement is presented in two volumes. The two volumes are:

  • A90 Dualling Balmedie to Tipperty Volume 1: Environmental Statement; and
  • A90 Dualling Balmedie to Tipperty Volume 2: Environmental Statement: Figures.

Although the format differs the content of both Environmental Statements are consistent.
