The current Operating Company contracts in the North West and the South West commenced on 1 April 2006. Those in the South East and North East commenced on 1 April 2007. Each of these contracts has been awarded for a period of five years, with the option of the contracts being extended to a maximum of seven years in total.

 Operating company contracts are available for:

• the North West - operated by Scotland Transerv
• the North East and South East - on the Bear Scotland websites
• the South West - operated by Amey Infrastructure Services

The current Operating Companies are:

South West
Amey Infrastructure Services

North West
Scotland Transerv (a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Mouchel Parkman)

South East and North East
Bear (Scotland) Ltd (a joint venture between Babtie Jacobs, Ennstone plc and Ringway Group Ltd), who have retained the contract in the North East Unit, and who will be the new contractor in the South East Unit.
