A9 Luncarty to Pass of Birnam
What's involved?
The project aims to widen the existing A9 to provide 15km of continuous dual carriageway between Inveralmond roundabout in Perth and the Pass of Birnam on the A9.
Project benefits
This project forms part of the wider strategy to upgrade the A9 between Perth and Inverness to dual carriageway. The completed project will provide safer overtaking opportunities and, as a result, road users will experience fewer vehicle platoons and convoys.
Status
In preparation.
Impact on travel
Road users will experience some delays during the construction period. On completion the upgrade should have a positive effect on driver stress levels.
Environmental impact
There is expected to be a neutral impact on air quality at designated sites. The landscape and visual impacts will be relatively limited. The improvements include a Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems that will benefit the water environment. Pedestrian, cycle and equestrian access will be maintained and enhanced in some areas.
Public Exhibition
Transport Scotland hosted public exhibitions to give everybody the opportunity to see potential route options.
The exhibition boards are available in two parts, see A9 Luncarty to Tay Crossing public exhibition boards part 1 (pdf, 3,094KB) and part 2 (pdf, 4.6MB). See also the scheme leaflet (pdf, 2.8MB).
