A96 Inshes to Nairn

Project Summary:
This project upgrades the A96 to dual carriageway for 24km from the A9 at Inshes in Inverness to the east of Nairn on the A96.

What's involved?
The Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR) was published by Transport Scotland in 2010 to set trunk road interventions including: Upgrade the A96 between Inverness and Nairn to dual carriageway and provide a new link from the A9 to the A96 and a bypass at Nairn.

Project benefits
The project upgrades the A96 between Inshes and Nairn and forms part of the wider strategy to upgrade the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen to dual carriageway. The completed project will provide safer overtaking opportunities and, as a result, road users will experience fewer vehicle platoons and convoys.

Status
In preparation.

Impact on travel
Road users will experience some delays during the construction period.

Environmental impact
The future environmental impact assessment will assess the preferred options.

The Highland Council will host public exhibitions on the local development plan for the Inner Moray Firth. You will also have the opportunity to see potential route options.
