A9 Crubenmore Dual Carriageway Northern Extension Project

Details

Project Summary:
2.7 km extension to existing 1.6 km length of dual carriageway, north of Crubenmore.

This project has its own microsite available on the Transport Scotland website.

What's involved?
The project involves a 2.7 km extension to the existing 1.6 km of dual carriageway, north of Crubenmore. The orders have been made, the general effect of which is to provide for the A9 dual carriageway northern extension including the compulsory purchase of land adjacent to the A9.

Project benefits
Between 1995 and 1997 the A9 Route Action Plan (RAP) study was undertaken to assess the A9 between Perth and Inverness. This culminated in the A9 Route Strategy which recommended a series of improvement schemes, including the dual carriageway northern extension at Crubenmore. The extension is intended to maximise the overtaking benefits of the existing 1.6 km section of dual carriageway.

Once the project is complete, road users will have more safe overtaking opportunities leading to fewer vehicle platoons and convoys.

Status
These details are available from the programme document.

Impact on travel
Road users will be subject to some delays during the construction period.

Environmental impact
The introduction of the scheme will result in a negligible change in the concentration of pollutants or level of traffic noise in the area. No adverse impacts due to groundborne or airborne vibration are predicted at any of the receivers within the study area.

No major ecological impacts are predicted to result from the road scheme proposals.

Existing travel patterns for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians should be unaffected by the scheme.
