M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements
Less congestion and safer, quicker journeys are among the benefits drivers can expect from Transport Scotland’s new M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements project.
This major project will upgrade the core of Scotland’s motorway network and will boost Scotland’s economy by improving connections between the commercial centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh and beyond.
The project to manage and maintain a core section of the motorway network for thirty years will commence with the upgrade of nearly seven miles of the A8 dual carriageway between Baillieston and Newhouse, completing the M8 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, along with major improvements to the M74 Raith Interchange and other key sections of the existing M8, M73 and M74.
The immediate effect of the project will be to support hundreds of jobs in the hard pressed construction industry during the upgrading works on the motorway network, supporting the Scottish economy. Thereafter the long term economic benefits of the project will be realised by the improved transport links provided.
