Less congestion and safer, quicker journeys are among the benefits drivers can expect from Transport Scotland’s M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project.
Work is now underway on this major infrastructure project to upgrade the core of Scotland’s motorway network, which will boost Scotland’s economy by improving connections between the commercial centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh and beyond.
The project to manage and maintain a core section of the motorway network for the next 30 years will include the construction of a new motorway over 6 miles between Baillieston and Newhouse, which will complete the M8 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. In addition, a new A8 all-purpose road between Baillieston and Eurocentral will be created as well as major improvements to the M74 Raith Interchange and further improvements to key sections of the existing M8, M73 and M74.
This major transport infrastructure project will support hundreds of skilled jobs in the hard pressed construction industry over the duration of the works and the long term economic benefits of the project will be realised by the greatly improved transport links provided.
