Transport Scotland collects traffic count information, that is the number of vehicles passing certain points on the trunk road network.

Data is collected from over 1,500 automatic counting sites located on the trunk road network. These sites are strategically placed to ensure that statistics on all links on the network between major junctions are collected, and this number is due to expand.

Traffic count information is a part of the Scottish Roads Traffic Database (SRTDb), Transport Scotland's database of traffic and traffic-related data and is a system which collects, validates, stores and disseminates traffic count data and related outputs for the trunk road network in Scotland.

You can get traffic count information for the year 2006 and for earlier years 2003 to 2005 for any of the sites that we monitor by:

  • utilising the map application on this site
  • making a specific request to us for traffic count information.
