Four overnight closures of A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Eurocentral Junction and Newhouse Junction

The A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Eurocentral Junction and Newhouse Junction will each be closed overnight, for four consecutive nights between 8pm and 6am, starting on Monday 4 December.

The works will take place in two phases, to ensure only one direction of the A8 carriageway is closed at any given time.

Phase 1: Eastbound

The A8 eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight for two nights, from 8pm to 6am, between the link road from Eurocentral north roundabout to Newhouse Junction off slip road (A73) on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 December.

As a result, the following link and slip roads will also be closed:

  • M8 eastbound Junction 6A Chapelhall off slip road
  • A8 eastbound link road at Chapelhall north roundabout to B799 Bo’Ness Road for Chapelhall/Calderbank
  • A8 eastbound link road to A8 & M8 at Newhouse Interchange
  • A8 eastbound link road between Chapelhall north roundabout and Chapelhall south roundabout (Underpass)

Phase 2: Westbound

The A8 westbound carriageway will be closed overnight for two nights, from 8pm to 6am, between Newhouse Junction on slip road and Eurocentral south roundabout on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 December.

As a result, the following link and slip roads will also be closed:

  • A8 eastbound link road from Chapelhall south roundabout to B799 Bo’Ness Road for Holytown/Motherwell
  • A8 westbound link road from Chapelhall south roundabout to Eurocentral south roundabout (Coatbridge/Bargeddie)
  • M8 westbound Junction 6A Chapelhall on slip road
  • A8 westbound link road between Chapelhall south roundabout and Chapelhall north roundabout for B799 Chapelhall & A8 eastbound Newhouse Junction & A73/M8

Signed diversion routes will be in place for both the closures. Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland’s website prior to travelling.

These closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety while essential line painting works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and Police Scotland.

All works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
