Overnight closures of the A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Chapelhall Junction and Newhouse Junction

Road users are advised that the A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Chapelhall Junction and Newhouse Junction will each be closed overnight, for three nights, commencing Monday 12 February 2024 to carry out essential carriageway patching works.

The works will take place in two phases as follows:

Phase 1: Westbound

The A8 westbound carriageway between Newhouse Junction on slip road and Chapelhall Junction south roundabout, will be closed overnight for 3 nights between 8pm and 6am the following day commencing on Monday 12 February.

As a result, the following link and slip roads will also be closed:

  • M8 westbound link road to A8 westbound at Newhouse Junction

Phase 2: Eastbound

The A8 eastbound carriageway between Chapelhall Junction north roundabout and Newhouse Junction off slip road (A73), will be closed overnight for 3 nights between 8pm and 6am commencing Wednesday 14 February.

As a result, the following link and slip roads will also be closed:

  • A8 eastbound link road from Chapelhall Junction to M8 at Newhouse Interchange

These overnight closures have been phased to ensure only one direction of the A8 carriageway, eastbound or westbound, is closed at any given time. Wednesday 14 February 2024 is a contingency night to be used by either Phase 1 or Phase 2 of these works if required.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for both the closures. Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland’s website prior to travelling on these evenings to check their route.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and Police Scotland.

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
