Salt Group situation report

Number one - 5 November 2025

  1. Current stock held by local authorities, trunk road operating companies and in strategic reserve is 497,032 tonnes. (This compares with current stock on 8 November last year of (533,479tonnes).
  1. Salt on order by local authorities and trunk road operating companies is 46,402 tonnes. (This compares with salt in stock and on order on 8 November last year of 46,591 tonnes).
  1. Salt being pursued/on order for strategic reserve is 0
  1. Total for salt in stock and on order is 543,434(This compares to salt in stock and on order on 8 November last year of 580,070 tonnes).
  1. Total declared salt usage for winter season 2025-26 to date is 3,940 (This compares with salt usage on 8 November last year of 192 tonnes).
  1. National Strategic Salt Stock totalling 45,126 tonnes is currently in stock at various depots throughout Scotland.
  1. This is the first Salt Group Situation Report of the 2025-26 winter service season, and the next report will be provided week commencing 17 November 2025.
